We are thrilled to announce that we will be offering several classes with the Highlands Ranch Community Association this summer! We have designed three different classes for three different age groups. It is our hope to equip students with a better understanding of the social world and executive functioning strategies…while just having fun. Our three classes are as follows:
Executive Functioning with MINECRAFT
Your child doesn’t know it, but he self-regulates, plans, and prioritizes while playing his favorite game! Once he recognizes his ability to do these things, we will transfer those skills to real life. This class is for kids aged 9-12 who typically work independently in general education classrooms.
Session 1: Northridge Recreation Center – Wednesdays 06/08/16 -06/29/16 (4 Sessions) from 3:30-4:45 pm
Session 2: Eastridge Recreation Center – Tuesdays 7/12/16 -8/2/16 (4 Sessions) from 4:00-5:15 pm
Heroes and Villains
If your child has poor self-awareness or self-esteem, he might need help bringing out his inner super hero and trapping the villainous thoughts that keep him from reaching his full potential. This class is for kids aged 6-8 who typically work independently in general education classrooms.
Session 1: Northridge Recreation Center – Tuesdays 6/7/16-6/28/16 (4 Sessions) from 3:30-4:45 pm
Session 2: Eastridge Recreation Center – Wednesdays 7/13/16-8/3/16 (4 Sessions) from 4:00-5:15 pm
Does your child like to have fun, but sometimes have difficulty understanding how others interpret his/her actions or going-with-the-flow? Let’s use improvisation, scene work, and laughter to improve perspective-taking and cognitive flexibility. This class is for middle schoolers who typically work independently in general education classrooms.
1 Session: Northridge Recreation Center – Thursdays 6/2/16-6/30/16 (5 Sessions) from 3:30-4:45 pm
You can sign up by calling Heather Goetz-Zettl at the Highlands Ranch Community Association at (303) 471-8818.
